Craft Gin Club Box Review!

If you are a gin lover there has certainly never been a better time to enjoy the boom of craft gin & gin products currently bursting into the market! As the number of gin distilleries in the UK alone has double in the past five years, there is a plethora of new gin’s to explore and the Craft Gin Club is a fabulous way to discover new gin.

Founded by Jon Hulme and John Burke in January 2015, the subscription company really took off after winning investment from Sarah Willingham on Dragon’s Den in 2016. Their mission was to reinvent how gin lovers enjoy gin, through supporting smaller craft distilleries and stunning supplementary products to enhance the gin experience.

How it works!

Each month members are sent a different surprise Gin of the month box in the post. Every box contains a full-sized bottle of a special craft gin – these could be brand new launches, one-off productions or unique imported gins that are lesser known in the UK market. There are also a selection of paired mixers, cocktail ingredients and food treats as well as the fab Ginned! magazine.

Members can choose their delivery frequency, either monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly and every box is £40 (including postage). You can also select any of these options as a wonderful gift membership for the gin lover in your life!

One thing I love is that the boxes are commitment free and you can easily upgrade or downgrade the frequency or cancel at any time with no hassle.

Update! There is now a new online members area for subscribers to allow you to amend your subscription even easier! As well as this it is full of additional tips, recipes and inspiration for your gin collection, an exclusive members online shop & the new rewards scheme! This combines with their excellent customer service makes it a fantastic choice!

My Box!

The box arrives very well packaged, with all the contents inside a brilliant bubble wrapping to make sure it gets to you in peak condition. I was shocked by the amount of treats in the package!

img_-gplnt7.jpgIt included:

  • a full sized bottle of Citrus Osmoz Gin
  • a bottle of Double Dutch cucumber & watermelon tonic water
  • a bottle of St-Germain Elderflower liquer
  • a pack of Green & Black’s praline chocolates
  • a Flower & White Chocolate Meringue bar
  • a packet of REAL crisps, cheese & onion flavour
  • plus 36 page Ginned! magazine

The value of the box contents is around £55 and I have been able to find the gin sold online for about £32 for a 70cl bottle.  Making the £40 definitely worth it!

The beautiful packaged Osmoz citrus gin is made from a grape based spirit and distilled at Chateau Montifaud, France. It is suffused with the key aromas of the cognac normally produced in the Chateau; linden, apple apricot, liquorice, almond & clove. I chose to follow the perfect serve recommended garnish of strawberries and basil to sample my new gin. The winemaker’s take on a gin is fresh, citrus based aromatic gin. The orange, lemon and cucumber taste comes through and leaves a crisp finish.

IMG_20180721_195129~2.jpgFurther suggestions of how to use the gin in cocktails and even a recipe for an Osmoz country pork pate can be found in the magazine! Double dutch tonics, who have a unique approach to creating incredible flavour combos like the cucumber & watermelon in the box also list some ideal ways to combine the two products. The magazine also contains travel tips for Gin breaks, great Gin bar recommendations, history and more cocktail recipes for the gin in the box or img_20180721_1852262.jpgany other gins you may Ihave at home.

The food items were a great addition. I had never really thought of crisps as an accompaniment to gin, but the REAL crisps were packed with flavour & character. Chocolates are always a welcome gift, I can’t wait to share the dark chocolate praline with friends! My favourite food discovery in the box was the Flower & White chocolate meringue bar as well. A lovely sweet treat with less guilt as it is less that 100 calories!

I can find nothing negative to say about the Craft Gin Club subscription box! I will definitely be looking forward to future boxes and buying gin gifts off their website for my fellow gin lovers!
