Escape the chaos of Oxford Circus and step into a quintessential British seaside setting of fantastic street food, drinks and crazy golf fun at the West End Swingers venue!
Swingers was dreamt up by the Institute of Competitive Socialising, who strongly believe life is better when it includes an element of competition enjoyed with friends. Their two venues bring together the incredible social experience of crazy golf, street food and drinks in one atmospheric venue.
The substantial 20,000 square foot Oxford Street location is packed full of fun discoveries, starting with 4 bars! The magnificent Grand Hotel & Bandstand bars are supplemented by two cocktail bars on the courses. The huge free-standing island bar dominates the entrance and is inspired by the palm courts of the grand hotels in Eastbourne & Torquay in keeping with it’s 1920s seaside theme! The iconic bandstand canopy appears above the all-day cocktail bar in the centre of the venue. There is also a small bar within each course and caddies are on hand to provide you with a new drink as you play! You cannot order a drink for the course once you are several holes in, so I’d recommend ordering earlier in your round.
There are an impressive selection of cocktails available, including a cocktail of the month and their signature gin & tonic! I obviously jumped at that one and really enjoyed ‘The Swinger’. Tanqueray No. TEN served with Double Dutch tonic, grapefruit & a pink peppercorn twist. They also have a choice of chauffeur’s choice mocktails for anyone not drinking, which some friends loved! There are also a good selection of wines, beers, regular spirits and bubbles!
Two courses are available for your putting adventure! Both are beautifully designed 9-hole courses and full to the brim with crazy jumps, loops and even a Helter Skelter or Big Wheel depending on your course. On my visit I was tasked with defeating the obstacles of the Helter Skelter course, which I think we can safely say I was not victorius in beating the par 21!
We had a fantastic time working round all the different holes, suddenly becoming golfing experts when offering ill-fated advice to other players in our group and laughing when it went horribly wrong!
Once you have sunk your final ball you can even immortalise those lasting memories of a fun-filled evening with friends, or if you are lucky enough your victory on the incredible 3D photo podium! It even creates a little ‘Boomerang’ style photo & stylises it with cute little decorations, as well as the photo.
After all of the crazy golf fun you are definitely deserving of the delicious street food on offer from the four beach huts that line the Promenade. Inside the huts you’ll find; Made of Dough, Patty & Bun, Breddos Tacos & Hackney Gelato providing that sweet treat to celebrate (or commiserate!) your golfing prowess!
I visited Breddos Tacos in Kingly Street last year and had been raving about their food ever since, so this was my opportunity to sample their delicious, but extremely messy (just me? okay!) tacos & recommend them to most of my friends! The exclusive Swingers menu includes some of their infamous flavours alongside a range of tostadas and addictive sides. There is never too much of Breddos guacamole!
I opted for the three taco plate, including the Breddos classics of masa friend chicken with Habenero mayo, slaw, lime & pico de gallo; baja fish, tempura cod, lime, slaw, salsa habanero & mayo and Beef brisket birria with lemon onions, guajillo adobo, sour cream and chipotle salsa. We also shared corn chips, salsa, guacamole & chips.
Made of Dough who started up serving their pizza at festivals have put together a stellar range of pizzas, ranging from the classic margherita to the delicious sounding mushroom truffle pizza, calzones and a vegan option. Patty & Bun dish up their signature burgers and the exclusive Colin Montgomery for famished players, alongside chicken wings, cheese balls & brisket nuggets!
Finally, but by no means least, Hackney Gelato have set up home as the first ever Swingers dessert vendor. Their first concession serves up an incredible menu of bespoke Ice Cream flavours with an English twist to the classic Italian gelato recipe, the perfect fit for the seaside theme! I had to try the passion fruit sorbet and the tartness was just right! I was able to steal a spoonful of friends choices, and I think you will be delighted with any of the fantastic flavours on offer!
This was a fantastic evening out with friends, full of laughter, healthy competition followed by fantastic street food & drinks, at a venue with a fun atmosphere. I’d definitely recommend it for your next night out, work social or even a date! I can’t wait to go back and try the Big Wheel course and sample more of the delicious food!
