Currently it has been over a year since I (and many of you) have been able to enjoy a night out for dinner in one of my fantastic local pubs due to the pandemic. Thankfully they have had some fantastic ingenuity and adaptation in the current situation; from grocery deliveries of wonderful produce, tasty takeaway deliveries and now ‘finish at home’ kits to bring the pub to you!
I was extremely lucky to win a giveaway from my fabulous local Peach Pub, the Chequers in Eversley for a three course Peach Pub classic ‘finish at home’ kit & it was on my birthday as well!!! As I was unable to enjoy a delicious meal in the pub it was a perfect birthday present as this prize brought them to me; although I definitely miss the warm service from the team and I can’t wait to visit again when we can safely.
The box arrived via courier, as kits are now available nationwide. Inside the box was packaged with some cool packs to ensure safe transportation of your meal kit, but it should be put in your fridge on arrival until you dine that evening.
On opening the box, the presentation is extremely cute! They have really worked hard on producing an experience for you to enjoy at home. I loved the small additional touches that made the box really fun and special, like the bartenders jokes and a ‘Set the mood’ box that contained a tealight & matches. Plus the Spotify playlist available via the QR code on the menu is the perfect soundtrack to cook and enjoy your meal too, I have used it every night since as well!
The box contains a printed menu with cooking and plating instructions, as well as a providence map showing where the wonderful quality produce in the boxes comes from. These ‘extras’ reflect the extra mile of service that I’m used to experiencing in the pub to the at home kit.
As with their pub menus, the food options for each week change with the seasons to provide indulgent weekend special meals, made from high quality ingredients and expertly curated and skillfully prepared by the Chefs before you finish them at home.
The starter was a beautiful, light introduction to the meal with a beetroot tartare, butternut squash yolk and some toasted sourdough. It was very easy to prepare the first course as this simply needed to be plated per the instructions! I really enjoy a steak tartare when I’m dining out, so I really enjoyed the opportunity to plate up this vegetarian version at home. A really quick, fun dish that looked beautiful and tasted fabulous as well!
For the main course you could select from a meat or vegetarian option for the week I received. The vegetarian main course was a thyme-roasted celeriac, sweet potato and puy lentil Wellington, with rosemary savoy cabbage and truffle sauce. I opted for the meat main course which was Aubrey Allen 28 Day Dry-aged British Fillet Wellington, Dauphinoise Potatoes, Creamed Spinach & Red Wine Sauce. This was the most involved dish to finish at home, but still completely manageable by all levels of home cooks!
The Wellingtons both travelled very well and arrived perfectly. They needed to be brought to room temperature, brushed with an egg or milk glaze (for you to provide) and popped into a preheated oven. The potato dauphinoise are timed to go in shortly before the Wellington resting time and both the creamed spinach & sauce are packaged to be warmed through on the hob. This came together all at the correct time thanks to the detailed instructions provided and looked like a knockout dish.
This was possibly one of the best Beef Wellingtons I have ever eaten! The quality of the grass-fed, dry aged British beef from Aubrey Allen’s is undeniable & was the star of the dish. It was perfectly wrapped in an omelette, mushroom duxelle and beautiful crisp, flaky pastry. The dauphinoise added a lovely creamy, rich element to the dish and were melt in the mouth. Combined with the spinach and flavoursome red wine sauce, the main was perfection for an at home elegant special dinner!
Having thoroughly enjoyed the starter and main course, we took a break to enjoy our wine and the soundtrack provided before serving the pudding as I wanted to be able to devour every mouthful! The pudding was a decadently rich Chocolate Truffle Cheesecake slice, served with needed freshness from Black Cherries & Crème Fraîche. The cheesecake was extremely chocolatey, with a great firm texture and the bursts of crème fraîche sourness and the fruity compote of black cherries rounded out the dish to a delightful dessert.
My Peach at Home kit was absolutely delicious, the perfect way to enjoy my birthday and a decadent taste of amazing restaurant-quality food that I miss from our wonderful hospitality industry. It is a brilliant way to bring your favourite pub dishes to you for a special dining experience in the comfort of your own home in lockdown and (hopefully) beyond!
Cost: the boxes vary in price week to week depending on the meal on offer. This exact box was £70 for 2, a vegetarian option was £60. Prices are shown on each box.

Note: I won this three course meal as part of a public competition by Peach Pubs on social media. As always, all opinions are my own, and I’ll never recommend anything to you that’s not fantastic.
